Who We Are

Making essential medical equipment accessible

OrthoAid is a nonprofit organization founded with a simple idea: durable medical equipment that is no longer being used can still make a meaningful difference in someone else’s recovery. The inspiration for OrthoAid came when Shivam Srivastava and Siddharth Srivastava noticed that their grandmother used a walker for only a short time after her knee replacement. Once she recovered, the walker remained unused in the house. They realized that many other patients likely had similar equipment sitting in closets, basements, and garages—while other people in the community might be unable to afford the very same items.

From that idea, OrthoAid was created to collect, restore, and redistribute gently used durable medical equipment (DME) to patients in need. With support from patients at OrthoMichigan and the surrounding community, OrthoAid accepts donated orthopedic equipment that is no longer needed.

Every donated item is carefully reviewed for condition, function, and safety. Equipment that meets appropriate standards is cleaned, disinfected, prepared, and repackaged before being provided free of charge to individuals who may otherwise have difficulty obtaining it. OrthoAid accepts a variety of orthopedic and mobility equipment, including walkers, wheelchairs, canes, crutches, fracture boots, knee braces, wrist braces, splints, and other reusable orthopedic devices.By giving useful medical equipment a second life, OrthoAid helps reduce waste while improving access to essential recovery tools. What may no longer be needed by one patient can become an important part of another patient’s journey toward mobility, independence, and recovery
